Seminars

Every summer from July 2004 to July 2011, the Music Department at the Ionian University in Corfu (Greece) held a week-long Seminar on Ancient Greek and Roman Music, which was attended by students and scholars from several European, American and Asiatic countries (http://conferences.ionio.gr/sagrm/2011/en/home). The programme comprised morning sessions – led by Prof. Andrew Barker (Birmingham), Prof. Egert Pöhlmann (Erlangen) and Prof. Eleonora Rocconi (Pavia) – devoted to the study of the particular text or topic chosen for that year, such as ps-Plutarch De musica, ps-Aristotle Musical Problems, Music in Comedy, Music in Plato’s Laws and in Aristotle’s Politics. In addition, a series of evening lectures providing an overview of the current research developments in the field were included.
Between 2014 and 2018 the Seminars, following the customary format, have been held in Riva del Garda, in the North of Italy, thanks to a collaboration between MOISA and the ARION society (https://www.facebook.com/arionsociety).
Since 2019 the Seminars have moved to Bressanone / Brixen (Italy), in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Heritage of Padua University.
